Student Scholarships to the Annual Meeting

A limited number of scholarships are available for students in high school, college, and graduate studies.

High School Students

Scholarships applications are invited for high school students and a teacher or parent to attend the Annual Meeting of the Vermont Botanical and Bird Club. The meeting consists of morning bird walks, field trips on Friday and Saturday, and evening speakers. We go to interesting natural areas to observe plants and birds, and sometimes even butterflies!

We are looking for students who are interested in natural history. We provide a full scholarship, which includes all food and lodging and one year’s membership in the club. In addition to the student scholarship, we offer a 50 percent scholarship for one accompanying parent or teacher. High school students will not be accepted without a chaperone, and scholarships apply only to full attendance at the meeting (Thursday evening through Sunday morning).

If you are a science teacher and are thinking of attending this meeting with a student, there is potential for this to be used for relicensing credit. Please contact your local Relicensing Board.

To apply for a scholarship, we need to receive the following by April 20, 2010:

  1. a teacher recommendation – this can be in writing, by email, or through a phone conversation;
  2. a signed letter from the student with an expression of interest and a little information about themselves (one page is fine);
  3. contact information for the student and teacher or parent (name, address, email, and phone number).

We will select the students and notify them of their acceptance by April 27, 2010. Once we have selected the students, we will ask each one for a check for $25 as a “good faith” deposit and to hold their room. This must be received by us no later than May 7, 2010 in order for us to reserve the room. The money will be returned to the student when they arrive at the conference.

Correspondence should be addressed to:
